3-Day Update!

Colonel’s Blog, Earthdate 11 September 2023…

Hey Y’all!

Good morning and happy Monday from Air2Ground Farms! Where were you 22 years ago? We were stationed at RAF Lakenheath England and had just returned from the travel office purchasing tickets for our move back to the US to attend pilot training. … We have been really busy the past few days preparing for Shelley and Makaylah to take a trip to visit her parents while they are RVing in North Carolina. Thus, today will be a quick update of the past 3 days. The weather is very nice, upper 50s at night and low 80s during the day. We’re supposed to get rain tonight which is always welcome. Friday’s big event was that we went to pick up more sheep. Our regenerative grazing mentor and his wife are getting out of the sheep business due to some health reasons and we were excited to acquire their flock. We got 14 ewes, 15 ewe lambs, and a registered ram, originally from the same breeder we got our 2 registered rams (pictured above). Saturday was an awesome market day and seemed to be a good mix of folks that just wanted to buy some meat and folks that wanted to chat about what’s going on. By the way, we’re sold out of chicken! We’ll be processing more in about a month and will have some individual cuts at that time. Saturday afternoon, we worked to get things set up in a more permanent manner for the new sheep. Anytime we introduce livestock onto the farm, we keep them separate from the rest of our animals for a time. These new sheep will spend a month or so separated from our flock requiring us to get things set up to hold them for a while. Yesterday, we reworked paddocks for the dairy cows/rams and Stella (the weaned dairy heifer that still can’t be with the dairy cows because she will nurse). In doing so, it required a few hours of bush-hogging the hillside behind the house and the field next to the house. While I was mowing, Shelley hustled to get as many things “ready” for her to be gone as possible. We finished that up by late afternoon, just in time to shower and record this week’s podcast. I included a few pics of the hogs, the top one is a good profile of how well they are growing and I like his smile. We will be taking 5 to the processor 2 weeks from today and 5 more 3 weeks after that. I also included a pic of Happy and Betty enjoying a post-milking drink and Stella just hanging out. The other pic is of the beef herd hanging out this morning. I’ll try to keep you posted on how things are going this week!

I had just moved to Columbus AFB. My date to start work hadn’t come yet so I hubby have to go into the office yet. I was sitting watching the news when they broke to what happened.

22 years ago today I was in my home office, packing up to catch a flight to Toronto to see customers.

The TV was on and the network switched to a feed from NYC, showing smoke billowing from WTC.

My first thought was, "this can't be accidental...perfect weather".

Not 30 seconds later I see the second plane come into the picture. Removed all doubt about whether accidental or intentional.
