Friday Afternoon Retired Style!

Colonel’s Blog, Earthdate 23 June 2023…

Hey Y’all!

Good evening and happy Fast-Jet Friday!! The pic today is the Mighty-Mighty F-15E Strike Eagle flying low in Wales this week. It was yet another hot, dry day today. Things started normally, morning rounds just like every other day. We looked at the hill where we put the sheep yesterday and saw Tank and TJ but no sheep. No worries, there’s lots of woods for them to hide in. Each time we looked out, still no sheep. We finally had time to check on them and found them in the pasture they left yesterday. It looks like that back-fence is actually required! The bull is still very interested in Happy and is now showing interest in Betty also. We’re hoping the grass holds out in these pastures long enough for…well…you know. Then the beef herd can move along. It’s called “standing heat” when the cows will stand still for the bull to do his business, and right now, neither Happy nor Betty are still. They’re just not...standing for it! The pigs are doing very well today and like always enjoyed their breakfast. The beef chicks are great and one of the kittens decided to take a nap while watching them. The beef chickens are becoming more aggressive about their feed. Each time we reach in to get their feed troughs, they attack hoping our hands are their next meal. We went and picked up 4,200 pounds of feed today! These animals sure do eat…a lot! After we got the feed unloaded, we moved the sheep back into the paddock we built yesterday. They were very excited to get back to where we put them yesterday. Sheep where they belong, we showered and spent the afternoon cooking and taking pictures of all the different cuts of meat Shelley photo’d Wednesday. The top pic is us on the porch on a Friday afternoon smoking a couple of pork butts; shoulder steaks, ham steaks, ham cutlets, ribs, and chops on the other grill, pretending to be retired! I hope you have a great weekend!
