Colonel’s Blog, Earthdate 29 June 2023…
Hey Y’all!
Good afternoon and happy Thursday from Air2Ground Farms! We’re passing 101 degrees as I type…notice I’m inside typing. The heat index is 107, quite miserable. The animals are hot and all finding shade where they can. The layers are slowing down in the heat and so are the dairy cows. For the cows, they aren’t eating as much as they normally do because they are hanging out in the shade instead of out eating. The layers normally slow down this time of year. The top pic is the beef chickens. They are almost big enough! We’ve got about 10 days to go. The last pic is Stella. I realized I haven’t shown a pic of her in quite a while, but have described that she is doing well now that she is weaned. She looks really good and is transitioning from looking like a calf to looking like a cow. The flerd is looking great, and as of this morning, they were still hanging out in separate groups. Last time we put them together, it took about 3 days before they completely commingled. The layer hens and ducks all got fresh straw in their laying crates and houses, which always makes them excited. Tomorrow we plan to separate the hens and ducks again. This experiment of putting them together hasn’t worked well so we’re going to change it up again. We’ll close the chickens in their shaws tonight and move them in the morning. I spent the better part of the morning mowing/clipping the weeds and saplings in the pastures the beef herd just left. We have a couple of milk deliveries to town this evening. We’re still excited about sharing the awesome A2/A2 Jersey milk with folks!
Depending on where you get your information, anywhere between 47% to 49% of the population of the United States have type-2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. I’ll say that again in a different way just because it is staggering. There are approximately 334,967,580 people in the US as of 26 June 2023. On the low side, 157,434,763 and on the high side, 164,134,114 people in the United States have type-2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. Bringing it home, there are typically 60 or so folks who read this blog. Following the statistics, 28-30 of you have type-2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. This diagnosis may seem like a life sentence with potential health complications including: heart and blood vessel disease, nerve damage, kidney damage, eye damage, foot damage, etc. There is some amazing work being done that isn’t as prominent on the nightly TV commercials as the current diabetes medications for which we can all sing the jingles. If you, or anyone you care about, is dealing with type-2 diabetes or pre-diabetes, PLEASE check out the work being done by Virta Health. https://www.virtahealth.com I put their info sheet in here as a pic for you to peruse. These guys are being successful at “Reversing Type-2 Diabetes!” They are proving it doesn’t have to be a life sentence with all of the associated complications. At the foundation of their treatment is a low-carb diet. There is a lot more to their approach, but it shouldn’t come as any surprise that I am advocating for a low-carb lifestyle! Just another example of low-carb being the solution to a problem. This one just happens to be a really big problem seriously endangering our population. Go Low…Carb!
