Quick Farm Update!

Colonel’s Blog, Earthdate 19 July 2024…

Hey Y’all!

Good evening and happy Fast-Jet Friday from Air2Ground Farms! The fast jets today are the Mighty-Mighty F-15E Strike Eagle flying low in Wales this week. The weather went from unseasonably hot to unseasonably cool. In between the two was a 4 inch flooding rain event. We’re loving the rain in July! The first three pics are of the piglets on their first paddock move. They were hesitant at first to cross the line where there was once a fence but the green on the other side was just too much to resist. They love their new paddock and quickly made a mud hole out of it! The next pic is the dairy cows happily enjoying the tall grass in their new paddock. The rest of the animals are also doing very well. We spent the day today processing batch 5 of beef chickens. We let them grow an extra week and it was a very good decision. We didn’t lose any birds and they were a much better size. The biggest was 7.3 pounds dressed but the smallest was 2.8. We had a few that were small and from my research, sometimes the cross just doesn’t work perfectly from the hatchery and you can occasionally get a few birds that just don’t grow like the rest. We decided if they couldn’t grow in 9 weeks, an extra week or 2 wasn’t going to help so we processed them small. We chilled all of them for about 4 hours and then parted birds that were 6.0 or larger and shrink wrapped those that were 5.9 or less as whole birds. We put together some different options this time. First, from a special request, we ground about 10 pounds of breast. We did a couple of birds as halves and a couple in a big vacuum sealed bag as whole cut-up birds. Finally, we separated the legs and thighs on a few. It’s nice to have options for folks, especially in the store.

This is blog #298! After a year and a half, I’m giving myself a bit of a break. I’ll be taking the next couple of weeks off from blog writing. One of those weeks, we are going to be at the beach in Florida. We’re all looking forward to the time away! I wish you a very good couple of weeks and will catch you later!

Cheers!
